If you can get hold of a T4's rear setup you could get away with about R3000.00 if you build your own adapters and get longer Handbrake cables.

Izan, did you take photos of your T4 brake conversion? I would be interested to see. Also details on the adapters, who made them, can you replicate them etc. Is the handbrake good?

Hi Nico
Adapters are hand made, actually very straight forward.
I used 10mm baseplate.
Will post pictures later.
Handbrake feels good but not adjusted properly yet. Cables a little too short.
Brakes are brilliant though!
Just having a small problem with brakefluid expanding or seal damaged in master cylinder ... Still have to figure that one out....

I had a similar problem on my Ford Ranchero. The rear brakes were not releasing and wore out a new set of pads in about 2,000 km. The problem was solved by completely rebuilding the rear calipers with bits and pieces out of three different seal kits, as Ford did not have the right OE kit in stock, and being a low volume import, the after-market suppliers weren't much help either. I'm not sure how the hand-brake works on the T4 but on the Ranchero there are some course-threaded screws that turn when you pull the hand-brake up. These push the pads against the discs. Mine had severe corrosion on the threads and they were binding badly and not releasing. You may have a similar problem ie. hand-brake related.

Thanks but it cannot be the handbrake if im not using it?

Re: Rear Drum to Disk Conversion - Nico - 03-25-2013 08:33 AM

Is the hand-brake not even connected currently?

Re: Rear Drum to Disk Conversion - EcLiPsE - 03-25-2013 08:34 AM

Its connected but i find the problem without using the handbrake...

I'm busy preparing a conversion using Sharan rear discs and Golf/Jetta II calipers. Apparently one can use the existing handbrake cable as is.

I used LibreCAD (Portable App http://www.LibreCAD.org) to make a dfx drawing based on info from others on the net (Attached). I cannot attach the dxf file and I'm challenged to export to an up-loadable format at this time.

Why not just use the Sharan calipers?
