Auxiliary Water pump on 2.6i
Hi Guys

I have a 98 Microbus 2.6i and seem to be having issues with my auxiliary water pump. From what I can tell it is relay driven and only comes on when the motor is really hot...this is to avoid any heat spots in the engine....mine started leaking and I am about to replace it....but my main issue is there is no power to the plug that pushes in the bottom.....I cannot seem to makout which relay it is...fuses seem fine...but before I replace it I would like to know that the circuit works well....

Regards
Brenton

Re: Auxiliary Water pump on 2.6i
will only have power on the plug when the temp is over 105degrees, the bottom switch on the right of the head will determine this switching on/off, in the water outlet,

I may be a mechanic, but i can't fix stupid

Re: Auxiliary Water pump on 2.6i
Thanks for the feedback....So what I did was get the motor all hot...parked her off...and when the Fan comes on....tested for currentl across the terminals and no luck.....I drove a similar one down in DBN last week...and just normal town driving after switching off I could hear this things circulating the water....so the fact that mine does not come on is a good thing then...right? Anyways I need to replace it as it leaks a bit of coolant from the top...can it be repaired or just down right replace?

Re: Auxiliary Water pump on 2.6i
if you heard it circulating then it is working, but as i said needs to be over 105 degrees to switch on, so even when hot sometimes they don't switch on, on when really hot,

replace the pump if it is leaking, it can burst and then you loose all the water and cook the motor, not worth it,

Re: Auxiliary Water pump on 2.6i
Mine doesn't have that auxillary water pump. Is it a necessity? Should I look for all the parts and fit one?

Hi nick

i would say yes, it stops percolation after the car is switched off, they had head failures prior to the aux pump fitment, does yours have the pipes and wiring in place, then just fit the pump rest should be there, if they used the full harness for the 2.6,
