Re: 15" Brake Upgrade
Bennie you definitely have 16" uprights coz u also have 16" rear swing arms
You will need to convert the uprights to 14" like i did on my 2.5 if you want to convert to the bigger brake system
i can see your calipers are too far out and it wont work like that

2.6i Syncro Doka 1984
2.5i SSA PlayBus Syncro 1989
2.5i Factory 5 Cylinder Syncro 1991
2.0i Cox Camper Syncro 1989
2.0i Big Window Syncro 1992
2.6i 2WD Doka 1986
1.9TDI Golf Syncro 1991

Re: 15" Brake Upgrade
no because the pads will not touch the full area of the pad on the discs
will result in uneven brake pad wear and horrible braking

Re: 15" Brake Upgrade
Hi Bennie.
You have 2 choices here. Use a bigger disc with a spacer for offsetting the wheel or fit standard uprights.
If i look closely at your photo it dose look like 16 uprights as the pad is sitting off the disc.
I have a set of 16 uprights here that i am going to use the 2.6 callipers on and even bigger disc. More than likely from a merc.
This i will only know when i am ready to do it. Probably in a month or 2. This wrought will give even better brakes than the standard 2.6 ones.
WE are all finding out that VW SA did randomly use 16 inch parts on SA busses. Deans one van even had one 16 trailing arm and one 14 fitted.
All SA busses were fitted with all the body and suspension strengthening that the 16 syncro had as standard.
If you are interested in my results i will let you know wot discs i use.
Russel

Russel did you done the 16" uprights with Mercedes disks? I'm so scared to start spendig on the bus again, it becomes a never endig money pit with my luck. I'll wait till it is time to do the brakes again.

Welcome to the Syncro world and driving old cars. I have already spent almost the same amount on the white bus in one year than I paid for it. It's still cheaper than buying some other offroad wehicle.
