Pinzgauer - I just fell in love!
Guys!
This is just like loving your Syncro, many people think its a ugly vehicle...
I completely lost it now.... I want one!

More specific, the 6x6 with the vw 2.4TD engine!

they are nice, lots around in namibia, the guy i bought the 16" camper from has one, drive rough but great for overlanding.

i have a connection that can get them from the middle east, only hassle is they are LHD. there are a few registered her in SA with LHD

I may be a mechanic, but i can't fix stupid
Bad planning on your part does not make your issue an crisis to me
Bad workmanship by other garages does not entiltle you to better rates at me

Just spoke to John:
6x6 diesel approx R500k landed in SA, but not registered etc
6x6 petrol r300k as above,

he knows of a few here in SA, and will see if anyone wants to sell, but they are all petrol versions. he imported a few 10 years ago,

you must also look at the Volvo" VOLP" i think is is called, also awesome

RE: Pinzgauer - I just fell in love!
It is the Volvo TGB 13 this is a 6x6 and the TGB 11 is a 4x4. They are all fitted with portal axles.
They only made them in a petrol version. 2.2L 6 cylinder but many people have fitted other engines. EG merc 2.5td.
They are great vehicles but are getting old now. Last manufactured in earl 80's and nearly all LHD.
There were RHD ones made for the Malaysian military, I have seen photos of some just rotting away :-(
I looked into and was very close to buying a 13 but pulled out as spare parts worried me and that when I still lived abroad.

The reason im attracted to the Pinzgauer is because it shares the same designer as the Syncro for the 4x4 system and the diesel model was a 2.4 VW engine.
Its also lighter than the Volvo and lower(2.1m vs 2.3m)
The fuel consumption on those 2.4 VW TD models are very good...you will have a hard time getting a petrol to give that

RE: Pinzgauer - I just fell in love!
It is a very different 4x4 setup to any normal setup. More like a Russian
Zill. I know the first ones using the diesel used the 2.4 TD 6 cylinder This is the same engine that my 4x4LT had. Not a very impressive engine. Ime not sure wether this was replaced with the 2.5 TDI 5 cylinder engine.

At least the drivetrain is diesel ratio'd, replacing a problematic engine would be easy then, even with something like the 2.8 Isuzu(think that would work nicely)
