Handbrake cable replacement
Handbrake cable had snapped and had it fixed at local brake n clutch place when I had rear drums and pads replaced.

It seems as if nowadays cables are not replaced but re-connected/fixed?

What is interesting is that front cable runs from handbrake lever to a small kit-kat sized plate halfway to the back to which said cable is tightened..This plate then has various holes from where 2 other cables are fitted, each running to one of the rear wheels. What I noticed is that the front cable does not sit center to the plate. This results in the plate pulling sideways when applying the handbrake and no even pull is exerted via the two rearwheel cables.

This seriously impedes on the effective working of the handbrake.

Should the front cable not be fitted dead centre to the "kit-kat" plate?or is there something I am missing here?

The brake guys do not want to experiment around this with the Syncro...

RE: Handbrake cable replacement
IMHO, VW must have done this for a reason, all all like that, don't know what else to say

I may be a mechanic, but i can't fix stupid
Bad planning on your part does not make your issue an crisis to me
Bad workmanship by other garages does not entiltle you to better rates at me
Syncro, syncro , syncro and more syncro, this is the syncro way of life

RE: Handbrake cable replacement
Just checked mine since bus is up on ramps and yes mine sits also at an angle !
Could it be because the main cable fom the handbrake does not sit deadcentre ?
The r/h cable pulls with less strain than l/h side !

RE: Handbrake cable replacement
I am sure Syncromad is yanking our cable and knows the answer...

The handbrake cannot work effectively (pull evenly)if plate pulls at an angle...

RE: Handbrake cable replacement
Main cable is off set ( not centre of van) so this plate allows, compensates for that. It is the same on all VW T3 busses and syncro's.
