Trip To Zim in July 2012
hi Guys

Paul and i are planning a trip to Zimbabwe for July 2012,

Here is the rough idea for the Gonarezhou National Park, Zimbabwe trip in July 2012.
The dates will be 07-22 July 2012
Approx km will be 2500km excluding extra day trips, so probably 2800km at max

07- meet in Musina, approx 450-500km, fill up fuel to max.
08- Musina to Chipinda Pools in Gonarezhou, via Triangle & Cheredzi 400km
09- day trip on north side of Runde River, stay at Chipinda Camp
10- day trip on north side of Runde River stay at Chipinda Camp
11- south side of Runde River, Gota camp, maybe even further east
12- day looking for dhow moorings on Save river- Marhumbini camp
13- day looking for dhow moorings on Save river- Marhumbini camp
14- Gota area, day game viewing- Gota camp
15- Chilojo cliff top view, River camp
16- back to Chipinda and refuel at Chiredzi approx 500km for all travelling in north section
17- drive to Mabalauta camp, Gonarezhou south -125km
18- day drive at Gonarezhou south, Red cliff/falls etc
19- day at Gonarezhou south, game drive etc approx 100km day drives
20- Mabalauta to Musina via Crooks Corner/Zim side and Limpopo river 275km
21- Musina to home 450-500km
22- spare day for emergency/ breakdown

The main idea on this trip is to see if we can find the ancient Dhow mooring rings on the Save River, they are marked roughly on some maps near the confluence of the Save and Runde rivers. There have been a few trips to find them before but all without success. We have a rough idea of where we think the mooring rings are. We will also be game viewing and bush camping, prices roughly for camping are between $15 and $20 per person per day.

The itinerary is not set in stone and we may change things en route, there will be no serious off roading but there will be deep sand, small river crossings and a few rough roads. Myself and Paul will be joint leading the trip with input from the group.

My contact details are: tel 012 327 0006, cel 083 629 9951

Vehicles must carry fuel for at least 1000km with them, water for at least 4-5 days ie approx 50 litres per vehicle, food and drink for the trip etc.
We will refuel at all places we can as fuel may be a problem in Zimbabwe.

Vehicles should have at least one spare wheel, oil and filters for one oil change, anti freeze, Q20, the spares you feel necessary to carry with you for your vehicle, a tow rope, tyre pump, puncture repair kit, high-lift jack, fan belts etc

Also you will need your vehicles registration docs and passports etc, please also find out what visa costs are involved if you have a foreign passport, UK, German etc. please also get enough US Dollars for the trip. Fuel was approx $1 to $1.50 per liter in Zim, last time we were there. $2000-$2500 should cover the complete trip, but it is safer to have extra money with you.

We will have a meeting closer to the departure time to discuss finer details of the trip.

We will be restricting the number of vehicles to 6 or 7, and 5 places are already booked.
1) Stuart and Lindy
2) Paul
3) Lothar and Jasmine
4) Johann and Francina
5) Tim and Leslie
6) ?
7) ?

Thanks
Stuart

Hi Stuart,

Always wanted to visit Gonarezou.  Sounds like an awesome trip. Maybe would like to join you guys but the BosBus will have to get some serious attention before I can undertake a long trip like that. Smile Smile Will see what I can get done soonest and hopefully can join you on the trip. Are you going up in the camper?
