saw this a while ago, but i am sure it does not work for SA built VW's. we have unique vin Nos' from what i know,

I saw that plate one day on a UK forum,the long discussion about the Japan assembly,can't find it anymore:was it you? :-)

Also,the USA have a different VIN number on the Dash,just the beginning,but still a German stamped VIN on the chassis beam under the tank filler.I really don't know why they made their life harder :lol:
was not me but i posted it a while ago in the uk, we got it down to a complete knock down kit that was sent to japan and then reasembled in japan, the weird thing is that the van was ordered from a main dealer in kent (county in the uk) by the national trust who owned it for the first 12 years. it must have travled many thousands of miles before it got to its first owner.

have also see a couple of other assembled in japan vans over here in the uk. just another odderty in vw's
